2015 was a year of considerable growth for the Emerging Markets activities of Triodos Investment Management. Our assets under management in sustainable trade and inclusive finance increased by 18% to over EUR 750 million.

Sustainable trade and agriculture

We aim to improve the lives of small-scale farmers by enabling organisations and cooperatives to pay fairly and immediately upon delivery and to stimulate sustainable agriculture in Africa, Asia and Latin America through our trade finance activities. 

Some key figures for 2015

  • Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund disbursed a total loan amount of EUR 30.6 million
  • 104,305 small-scale farmers in 16 countries worldwide were paid directly upon delivery of their harvest
  • 11 different fair-trade and organic products were brought to international markets, such as coffee, nuts, cocoa and honey
  • The companies and cooperatives in the fund’s portfolio had 98,599 hectares under sustainable cultivation, equivalent to 70,000 football pitches

Inclusive finance

Through specialised funds - Triodos Microfinance Fund, Triodos Fair Share Fund, Triodos Sustainable Finance Foundation, Hivos-Triodos Fund – and in partnership with Women’s World Banking Capital Partners, we have been active as an investor in inclusive finance since 1994. In 2015, we continued to grow our impact by investing in 100+ financial institutions in 45 countries that focus on underserved people and regions.
